I have a Bachelor of Science degree in English (awarded cum laude with distinction from the University of Illinois), was a practicing attorney for many years and I am currently a licensed middle and high school English teacher. I received training from the Great Books Foundation and have professional experience leading adult book groups. Simply put, I have had a life-long love of reading and writing.
Over the years, I had been informally tutoring my friends’ teens in writing college essays and writing for English classes. To have a clearer understanding of how to effectively present their ideas, I needed to help them understand themes and analytical devices. It was great fun. When my own kids started high school, I learned their school had no ACT prep class. Many of my friends turned to the larger tutoring programs for help but their teens’ ACT scores were not improving. When my oldest got ready to take the ACT, it was a logical next step to incorporate ACT English, Reading, Science (which involves mainly critical reading) and Writing prep into the tutoring I was doing with family and friends. The results were impressive: their ACT scores rose significantly. A business was born.
